What a Loan DSA Actually Does — and Why It Costs You Nothing

By Anurag Singh, authorized DSA partner

“DSA” is one of those terms you’ll see next to a loan agent’s name without anyone ever explaining it. So let me, because understanding it tells you exactly how we make money — and therefore whether you can trust the advice.

What DSA stands for

DSA means Direct Selling Agent. A DSA is an authorized partner of banks and NBFCs (non-banking financial companies) who sources and helps process loan applications on their behalf. We’re not a lender — we don’t have the money and we don’t make the final approval decision. What we do is sit between you and a panel of lenders, and match your case to the ones most likely to say yes.

At MyMudraSolutions, that panel is 90+ banks and NBFCs. You can read more about who we are and how to verify us — for a loan agent, being checkable is the whole job.

How a DSA actually gets paid

Here’s the part that matters most to you. A genuine DSA is paid by the lender, not by you. When a loan is successfully disbursed, the bank or NBFC pays the agent a commission. That’s the entire business model. It means:

  • You pay us nothing for matching you to a lender.
  • Our interest is aligned with yours in one specific way: we only earn if a loan actually gets sanctioned and disbursed — so putting you in front of lenders who’ll reject you is a waste of our time as much as yours.
  • Any processing fee you do pay is charged by the lender, on their own terms, and goes to them — not to us.

If anyone describing themselves as a loan agent asks you for an upfront “file charge,” “approval fee,” or “guarantee deposit” before a loan is sanctioned, stop. That is not how a legitimate DSA works, and it’s one of the most common signs of a loan scam.

What the job looks like day to day

The useful part of a DSA isn’t paperwork — it’s judgement about which lender fits which person. Every bank and NBFC has its own private rulebook on income, employment type, age, existing EMIs and CIBIL score. A profile one lender declines can be perfectly fine for another.

An illustrative example. Say a self-employed shopkeeper with a thin tax history walks in after a big bank turned him down. To that bank, “no ITR” was a hard stop. But I know two NBFCs on the panel who’ll read a year of steady bank statements as proof of income instead. Same borrower, same documents — a different lender, and a different answer. That matching is the job. (Illustrative only.)

The other half of the job is telling you the truth. Sometimes that means “yes, this is very doable.” Sometimes it means “not today — here’s the one thing to fix first, then come back.” A good DSA would rather give you an honest no than push you into another rejection, because a rejection helps nobody and dents your CIBIL score on the way.

Why this beats walking into one branch

If you go straight to a single bank, you get that bank’s products, at that bank’s rates, judged by that bank’s rules — take it or leave it. If it’s a no, you start over somewhere else, and each fresh application is another hard enquiry chipping at your score.

Going through a DSA flips that: one conversation, one look at your profile, and applications sent only where you have a genuine chance. That’s the value — and, for you, it’s free.

Curious what that looks like for your situation? Talk to us — no fee, no obligation, just an honest read.

Common questions

Does a DSA charge the borrower a fee?

A genuine DSA does not charge you. We're paid a commission by the bank or NBFC when a loan is successfully disbursed. Any lender-side processing fee is the lender's own charge, set by them — not by us. If someone calling themselves an agent asks you for an upfront fee to "approve" or "guarantee" a loan, treat it as a red flag.

Is going through a DSA better than going straight to a bank?

A single bank branch can only offer its own products at its own rates. A DSA works across many banks and NBFCs at once, so we can match your profile to whichever lender is most likely to approve you on good terms — without you applying branch by branch and denting your CIBIL score with each rejected enquiry.
